Sea Girt Lighthouse | Sea Girt, New Jersey
Sea Girt Lighthouse
Sea Girt Lighthouse in pretty little Sea Girt, New Jersey is a sweet little lighthouse.
It is different, because the little light tower is actually part of the house.
Most lighthouses are separate structures from the keeper’s house.
After you enter the house, you see the little parlor.
To get to the light, you must climb a small ladder:
You can see the light:
The views from the lighthouse are great.
There are two wonderful websites that you tell you all about the lighthouse:

The bat condo photo (above) was taken in western Pennsylvania.
The bird apartment photo (below) was taken by the Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May, New Jersey.
Both photos were taken last summer.

Sandy Hook Lighthouse | Highlands, New Jersey
Sandy Hook
Sandy Hook is at the very beginning of the New Jersey shore.
It is a barrier spit extending out into the Atlantic Ocean.
On one side is Sandy Hook Bay, and on the other side is the Atlantic Ocean.
New York City is visible in the distance.
Sandy Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States. It was first lighted in 1764.
The lighthouse was outfitted with a Fresnel lens in the 1800’s.
There are splendid views in every direction from the top of the lighthouse.
On one side is Fort Hancock, a former United States Army Fort which was decommissioned in 1974.
You can see the row of officers' houses in the background.
Behind them is Sandy Hook Bay.
On the Atlantic Ocean side you can see New York City in the distance.
That’s Brooklyn in the forefront and the towers of the famous Manhattan skyline in the background.
You can see the currently-in-construction “Freedom Tower” (replacing the World Trade Center) rising above the rest, and The Empire State Building in the middle.
For fascinating stories about the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, read here and here.

Wildwood Days
The Wildwoods in New Jersey are several beach towns by the Jersey Shore.
The Wildwoods are considered to have the best beaches in New Jersey and some of the best beaches in the entire United States.
There are several Wildwoods: Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest.
Wildwood is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year!
The Wildwoods are nothing like nearby Cape May.
They have amusement parks, doo-wop architecture and are family oriented.
You can eat some frozen custard, deep-fried Oreos, and of course seafood.
Bobby Rydell sang a song about the place:
And it is true that the beaches are magnificent and enormous!
The Wildwood Boardwalk is also famous, and is home to many eating establishments and nearby several amusement parks.
The cry of “Watch the tram car, please! Watch the tram car, please!” will follow you down the boardwalk!
For more about the Wildwoods, read here.

Visiting Cape May
Visiting Cape May, New Jersey
The downtown area of Cape May, New Jersey is charming.
It is a very busy beach resort town, and the beach is great – but so are strolling around, eating and shopping!
To get to Cape May, you get off at Exit 0 on the Garden State Parkway!
You can take bike around town, take trolley rides, and also ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
Below is Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, founded in 1911.

Welcome Friends Old and New, Linger Here A Day Or Two
Cape May had a long history as a whaling town:
Dedicated to our fishermen lost at sea
I was thrilled see the Dala Horse sign indicating a shop filled with lovely Swedish items.
My mother was born in Sweden, and I grew up with beautiful Swedish items in my home.
There are some other lovely places to browse:
After a hard day of shopping, take time to go to the beach!
Make sure you take a Cape May umbrella!

The Painted Ladies of Cape May!
The Painted Ladies
Lovely Cape May, New Jersey has one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the United States.
The entire town has been designated a historic landmark, mostly because of the Victorian homes.
Cape May is considered by some to be America's first summer resort.
The Victorian homes were mostly built after a terrible fire which destroyed much of the downtown area in 1878.
These homes are brightly painted with gingerbread trimmings and many are now serving as bed-and-breakfasts.
In the photo above you can see the Chalfonte Hotel which has a long history in the town.
Mark (my husband) and I only had one day to devote to Cape May and we also wanted to see the lighthouse, so time was limited. It was also very hot outside.
We decided to take the Cape May Trolley to view the town.
All of the photos were taken while riding on the trolley, so please forgive me if some of the pictures are crooked and the tops of some of the buildings are cut off!
Check out my Cape May posts on visiting the town, Patriotic Cape May, and The Cape May Lighthouse!

ETA: Ohmigosh, I think I'm going to faint. The SITS Girls website, which is a group of over 40,000 women bloggers, mentioned my humble blog's name on their July 14th Saturday Sharefest -- on the front page! I'm so excited! I had no idea until just a few minutes ago!
If you are a woman blogger please check out SITS. It's a great community where you'll "meet" many other women bloggers.
Thank you so much SITS and all my SITstahs!

The Cape May Lighthouse | Cape May, New Jersey
The Cape May Lighthouse Is A Classic Lighthouse
The iconic Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park at the southern tip of New Jersey has lighted the way for about 180 years.
You must climb 199 steps to the top -- and we did it!
The first picture below is the light at the top of the lighthouse. It is a working automated light.
The view from the top is spectacular.
On one side is the Delaware Bay, with the state of Delaware in the distance, approximately 14 miles away.
One day I hope to take the ferry ride from Cape May, NJ to Lewes, Delaware. We just didn't have time on this visit.
On the other side is the Atlantic Ocean.
