Mount Tabor | Parsippany, New Jersey
Mount Tabor, New Jersey
Mount Tabor, New Jersey in Morris County was started as a Methodist Camp Revival Meeting town, just as Ocean Grove was in Monmouth County.
Mount Tabor was an independent town until 1980, and is now technically part of Parsippany, New Jersey -- but still has a separate feeling.
It has interesting gingerbready houses and still has a strong religious feel.
Yes, some of the pictures look crooked, but for once it's not my fault, because the streets are very hilly!
You can read more about Mount Tabor here.
You can read about the concerts they present at The Tabernacle here.
Last summer, I wrote about Ocean Grove, a Methodist Camp Revival town down the shore. You can check out those photos here.

Down The Shore at Ocean Grove!
During our day in Ocean Grove, down the shore, we wandered around the beach.
The powerful Atlantic Ocean had a strong riptide that day. It was also a brutally hot day and hazy, so we couldn't stay long.
The beach was not officially open because it was early in the season and there were no lifeguards, although plenty of people were on the beach anyway because of the heat.
If you saw my previous post on Ocean Grove, you will know that it has a strong Methodist camp revival meeting background.
We visited the Tabernacle bookstore and chatted with a very nice lady inside, then walked around the town.
We had lunch and then I thoroughly enjoyed my root beer float at Days Ice Cream parlour (delicious soft ice cream!), but sadly was too stuffed to eat anything at the adorable bakery. Next time!
Some of the charming aspects of Ocean Grove are the gingerbread-y Victorian hotels and houses -- some of which still bear symbols of their religious history.
There are also cute shops -- and of course the lovely beach.

Ocean Grove Camp Meetings!
![]() |
Ocean Grove Was Founded by Methodists
Lovely Ocean Grove, New Jersey, down the shore, was founded in 1869 as a Methodist Camp Meeting town.
Even though Ocean Grove was eventually required to become part of Neptune, New Jersey, it still has a very strong religious spirit.
Every spring, tents are attached to standing wooden sheds which contain the kitchen and bathroom.
The devout Methodists come to Ocean Grove each summer and are part of the camp revival meetings, which are still held one week a year.
These tents are then taken down in the fall and stored in the sheds until the next year.
The most famous structure in Ocean Grove is The Great Auditorium, where the camp revival meetings are held and concerts are held throughout the year.
The auditorium seats about 6,000 people and is one of the largest auditoriums in New Jersey.
It also contains one of the largest pipe organs in the world.
