Bat Condos and Bird Apartments
Bat Condos and Bird Apartments
The bat condo photo (above) was taken in western Pennsylvania.
The bird apartment photo (below) was taken by the Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May, New Jersey.
Both photos were taken last summer.
Ah, summer!

Visiting Cape May
Visiting Cape May, New Jersey
The downtown area of Cape May, New Jersey is charming.
It is a very busy beach resort town, and the beach is great – but so are strolling around, eating and shopping!
To get to Cape May, you get off at Exit 0 on the Garden State Parkway!
You can take bike around town, take trolley rides, and also ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
Below is Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, founded in 1911.

Cape May had a long history as a whaling town:

I was thrilled see the Dala Horse sign indicating a shop filled with lovely Swedish items.
My mother was born in Sweden, and I grew up with beautiful Swedish items in my home.
There are some other lovely places to browse:
After a hard day of shopping, take time to go to the beach!
Make sure you take a Cape May umbrella!

This week I want to give a shout out to Mark of the Cape May Blog. He was nice enough to mention my photos on his blog! Check out his blog, too!
I also want to thank The SITS Girls for mentioning my blog on their Saturday ShareFest!

The Painted Ladies of Cape May!
The Painted Ladies
Lovely Cape May, New Jersey has one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the United States.
The entire town has been designated a historic landmark, mostly because of the Victorian homes.
Cape May is considered by some to be America's first summer resort.
The Victorian homes were mostly built after a terrible fire which destroyed much of the downtown area in 1878.
These homes are brightly painted with gingerbread trimmings and many are now serving as bed-and-breakfasts.
In the photo above you can see the Chalfonte Hotel which has a long history in the town.
Mark (my husband) and I only had one day to devote to Cape May and we also wanted to see the lighthouse, so time was limited. It was also very hot outside.
We decided to take the Cape May Trolley to view the town.
All of the photos were taken while riding on the trolley, so please forgive me if some of the pictures are crooked and the tops of some of the buildings are cut off!
Check out my Cape May posts on visiting the town, Patriotic Cape May, and The Cape May Lighthouse!

ETA: Ohmigosh, I think I'm going to faint. The SITS Girls website, which is a group of over 40,000 women bloggers, mentioned my humble blog's name on their July 14th Saturday Sharefest -- on the front page! I'm so excited! I had no idea until just a few minutes ago!
If you are a woman blogger please check out SITS. It's a great community where you'll "meet" many other women bloggers.
Thank you so much SITS and all my SITstahs!

The Cape May Lighthouse | Cape May, New Jersey
The Cape May Lighthouse Is A Classic Lighthouse
The iconic Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park at the southern tip of New Jersey has lighted the way for about 180 years.
You must climb 199 steps to the top -- and we did it!
The first picture below is the light at the top of the lighthouse. It is a working automated light.
The view from the top is spectacular.
On one side is the Delaware Bay, with the state of Delaware in the distance, approximately 14 miles away.
One day I hope to take the ferry ride from Cape May, NJ to Lewes, Delaware. We just didn't have time on this visit.
On the other side is the Atlantic Ocean.

Patriotic Cape May!
Cape May Is Feeling Patriotic
Lovely Cape May, New Jersey was America's first summer resort.
The above building, Congress Hall (now a hotel) was the summer White House for President Benjamin Harrison.
Many of the old Victorian houses are now bed-and-breakfasts.
