Find out on Wednesday, October 6th (tomorrow night!) at 10 PM
Food Wars on The Travel Channel!

Host Camille Ford will visit New Jersey to settle a long-standing feud between two premiere Italian Hot Dog joints, Jimmy Buff's and Charlie's Famous Italian Hot Dogs.

Camille will be joined by Pete Genovese of the Star-Ledger (famous for The Munchmobile) and food historian Andrew Smith.

What is an Italian Hot Dog? It is usually a hot dog made with fried peppers, onions and potatoes, and the "roll" is usually an Italian roll or pizza bread.

Here is a clip from the show:

  1. Mmm how is it that I'm both Italian and from New Jersey and never had one of these?? Too much time out of state :(

  2. I've passed Dickie Dee's several times on my way to downtown Newark recently -- I'll have to try them.

  3. I'll have to go to the shore next year. I haven't gone in a long time. Too many other problems. Sigh . . .

  4. My other half has never had one either -- and he's a New Jersey Italian, so don't feel bad.

  5. Dickie D's on Bloomfield Avenue in Newark, across from Calandra's on 6th Street, hands down makes THE best Italian Hot Dogs. Jimmy Buff's is a just a mouthful of grease.

  6. when i was a kid growing up in newark in the early 60's Rainbow a go go (not a dance place) had them all beat. then there was a place in denville back in the 80's and 90's called pj's pantry was great.. not a jimmy buff fan. i will have to try charlies soon..
