TV Thursdays: It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature!

Thursday, April 23, 2015

As we were driving home tonight admiring the daffodils and flowering trees, rain began to pelt down with --- sleet! We also saw a few snowflakes.

As I sat there cursing out Mother Nature (it's late April, after all, time for a real Spring), I remembered the 1970's Mother Nature commercials.

Dena Dietrich played Mother Nature in a Chiffon Margarine commercial in the early 1970s. The first one was so successful that she did quite a few more for the rest of the decade.

This was the first one, with the legendary tag line, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!"

That's Mason Adams as the announcer. He was famous for voicing the tag line: "With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good" for Smucker's jams and jellies. He voiced those for many years, in addition to many, many others.

The "Mother Nature" commercial was so successful that Dena Dietrich did quite a few more.

Here are a couple:

The Mother Nature commercials ran from around 1971-1979.

In 2002 they stopped making Chiffon Margarine for the American market.

Dena Dietrich is 86 years old now. If you check on this Facebook page, there are photos of her from 2012 and she looks great!
