This year Sandy Hook Lighthouse is celebrating its 250th birthday! That’s why the bunting is on.
It also looks like the beloved lighthouse has gotten a new paint job since I last visited two years ago!
Sandy Hook lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States. It was built to help mariners entering New York Harbor to see their way in safely.
These two photos were taken in June 2014 while traveling through Fort Hancock, an abandoned military base.
I wrote more extensively about Fort Hancock and the Sandy Hook Lighthouse back in 2012 - including views from INSIDE the lighthouse.
