Music Mondays: Swedish House Mafia (Save the World)

Image
Being of half-Swedish ancestry I couldn't help but be intrigued by a group called Swedish House Mafia . : ) This is such a striking video. The song is catchy but the story and visuals are what really make the video interesting. I love the heroes that save the day!

The Brainy Borough: Metuchen

Image
As I wrote in my post about Lake Hiawatha , many New Jersey town names are derived from Native American words.  For example, the very nice borough (sometimes spelled "boro") of Metuchen is named for the Indian chief Metuching. Metuchen is located in Middlesex County, completely surrounded by the much larger  Edison Township, like a hole in a doughnut.

Lake Hiawatha Firehouse

Lake Hiawatha is one of several communities within the large township of Parsippany. Towns and areas with names of Native American origin are common in New Jersey. The name “Parsippany” is derived from a Lenape word which means “where the river winds through the valley.”

Walther House at the Presby Iris Gardens in Montclair

Image
Last week, I showed you some of the irises at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, New Jersey.  Walther House is named after Barbara and Fred Walther, owner of the house adjacent to the iris gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Walther were instrumental in getting the iris gardens established.  Inside is the “Bloom Room”, where iris-related merchandise may be purchased.  You may read more about Walther House and the Iris Gardens here .     To read more about the Iris Gardens, please go to their webpage .   Please check out my Tumblr !     For more Wordless Wednesday , click the badge below !    For more Outdoor Wednesday , click the badge!   Have a wonderful week!

Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair: The Rainbow on the Hill

Image
The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, “The Rainbow on the Hill,” is one of the largest public iris gardens in the world.  As the website states: "The history of the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens is one that is deeply entrenched in the history of its community, Montclair, New Jersey. The Gardens were started as a memorial to Frank H. Presby, one of the founders of the American Iris Society and a leading citizen of Montclair."
