Early Irises Are Blooming!

The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair, New Jersey is the largest public garden in the United States devoted mostly to irises. The early irises are starting to bloom! I would think they will hit their peak in a week or so!

      The irises are so different. There is a great variety of irises in this garden.

    I used to have irises blooming in four corners of the yard but one winter they seemed to all die. I never replaced them but seeing this blog post gives me such great joy that I should really replant some.       Many people around this area buy their irises from Presby Gardens. It's nice to see the surrounding houses with irises in their yards.

Yule Log!

For many years Channel 11, WPIX in New York City ( one of the oldest TV stations in the country ), would present the " Yule Log " on Christmas Eve. While the Yule Log burned, Christmas carols would play. Now my childhood home did have a fireplace, but there was something about the Yule Log on Channel 11 that made us happy. It became a New York area tradition. I hope you enjoy it! This particular Yule Log was shown in 1983.
