Delicious cocoa! Hot chocolate! A wonderful thing to drink during the cold, dreary winter (I hate the cold). You get your chocolate fix and get warmed up at the same time.
There is a way to have this drink and still keep a low-fat healthy diet. Here is the recipe I use:
1/4 cup water
1 and 1/2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
2 teaspoons Splenda (or other brand sucralose)
3/4 cup non-fat (skim) milk
Mix cocoa, water, and Splenda together in small saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously and let it boil for a few seconds. Slowly add the non-fat milk and stir constantly.
Makes one cup. Add more Splenda to taste. Unsweetened cocoa has a very strong, somewhat bitter taste and you may need several more teaspoons of Splenda to sweeten it enough.
For something different you can try adding a tiny touch of vanilla (a little goes a long way), or put in some cinnamon.
Don't freak out over using non-fat milk and using Splenda instead of sugar. It tastes good, warms you up, you get calcium, it gives you a chocolate fix and you won't wreck your diet or consume unnecessary sugar!
