Now Open for Comments!

A very kind sister blogger just told me that she couldn't make comments on this site. Stupid me, I had changed the settings of comments from "full page" to "embedded below posts". Apparently this does not work with the particular template that I'm using. Oops! I hope I didn't lose anyone who couldn't post a comment.

I have now fixed the problem, so anyone who wants to leave a comment is very welcome to do just that! I love comments!

Thanks, Alex! Happy SITS day! Alex's blog,
Ma, What's for Dinner, is the Featured Blog today at The Secret is in the Sauce. Thanks SITsta!

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission -- geniuses in action!

I recently applied through the MVC website to send me address stickers for my NJ Driver's License. (I had recently moved). When I filled out the online form, it asked me for my street address and my mailing address. I filled out the form correctly, believing that my STREET address would be on the stickers and they would be MAILED to my mailing address (which is a P.O. Box).

Guess what??? The geniuses at the MVC sent me stickers with the P.O. Box on them! I called them right away, and the woman at the MVC said that your mailing address is what they put on the stickers!

Now what's wrong with this picture? First of all, I don't want a P.O. Box on my Driver's License. What if I need to show identification to a policeman?

Also, what if my mailing address was in another state? Would the brilliant MVC put an address from another state on my license?

This reminds me of the trouble I had with the Montclair Post Office several years ago, when I moved across town and they insisted on sending all my mail to Newark for several months. But that's another story . . .

Today is Earth Day 2010!

Legacy of the Land from Don Riemer on Vimeo.

Today is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day! We all know how important it is to guard our environment. Our planet is beautiful and we want to keep it that way!

If you live in or near New Jersey, you may wonder how you can help. It is important to recycle. It is important not to litter. Don't waste natural resources. If you can, volunteer to clean a park or plant some trees or flowers. The above 23-minute video is about the
Schiff Natural Lands Trust, located in beautiful Mendham, New Jersey (one of the prettiest towns in this country). Schiff contains over 400 acres of preserved land. The volunteers at Schiff provided nature walks, environmental education and are passionate about what they do.

There is a shorter 4 minute version of the video:

Stranded British Tourists Colonize Newark Airport

I can't help it. I know that the volcano in Iceland that has delayed air travel must be terrible for those who are stranded, but this headline in The Wall Street Journal makes me laugh:

The British are always so . . . British. Always colonizing and drinking tea.

And the French are, well, French. Love this quote:
And some stranded British and French travelers separated themselves into opposite camps. Brits on Tuesday night jokingly called the opposite side of their terminal the "French Quarter." Earlier Tuesday, a large group of French travelers boarded a flight home, and it couldn't have happened soon enough for some of the Brits. "The French have been a pain in the butt," Mr. Simkiss said.

I'm Back!

We're back from Colorado. It is such a beautiful state. I'll post more photos when I have time.

Everything went well on our flight back, until just before we arrived in Newark. The flight had been delayed almost two hours and when we approached Newark there was rain and lightning. We had to fly between the layers of clouds and watch the lightning. My ears popped like crazy. After we landed (about 7:30 p.m.) we had to go on Route 280 which was bumper-to-bumper because of road work. Welcome back to Jersey!

We had a great time and I especially want to thank Stephanie, Casey, and Magnum for everything they did to make our stay so enjoyable!
