Spamming the World

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Hi, everyone! Sorry that I haven't posted in over a week but I've been very busy with some projects that just had to get done. I can't talk about what they are -- yet -- but they were very important and I needed to get them out of the way.

At least the weather has finally become cooler. We have had mostly 90+ degree days for over a month! It's now in the 70s which is nice but it actually almost feels cold because the temperatures dropped so suddenly!

When I was away for a few days I noticed that someone (you know who you are "Anonymous") had put filthy comments on my last post. I'm sorry if everyone had to read them, and now I'm forced to use word verification when anyone leaves comments.

I really hate to do it but these comments were just disgusting. No more spam!

it is amazing how much idle time some creepy people must have.

  2. @caite -- Some people just have no life. I had a few spam comments on my other blog, but they weren't as filthy. I took them off, but they came back again and again. So I had to put word verification on that blog, too.

  3. I started using comment moderation a few months ago because of some spam problems. A couple of days ago blogger updated my blog with a new comments/spam filter. It's a very good improvement to the old one. You can check it out here:

God bless you and thank you for following my blog. ~Ron

  4. I feel that moderating comments is important for the reasons mentioned, BUT I feel there is less satisfaction for the reader/comment-er : ) ... when their comment does not show up immediately.

And, I'm with Caite -- dang, I missed them too!

  5. @The Old Geezer -- I'm definitely going to try it! Thanks so much for visiting and following!

  6. @kj -- Yes, I don't want to moderate comments, partially due to the fact that I don't always check my e-mails every day (my bad). However, I'm starting to see that word verification or something like it is important!

BTW, you really would not have wanted to see what "Anonymous" wrote. In addition to the usual porn, it made references to violent acts against children. Ugh! These people are sick!

  7. OOOOoooh I know how sickening that can be when you have been away from your blog and you come back to find the desecration - happened to me about a week ago too!
Glad I dropped by today, I found a few other posts on your hall of fame very interesting. Thanks for including me in your hall. Gray day here at the Shore which means I am SO over-snacking while on the computer!!!

  9. @pbenjay -- I know all about snacking at the computer. It's a blogging hazard! Now I try to keep healthy snacks (raisins, carrots, etc) handy.

  11. It's a shame what lengths some people will go to, isn't it? I have had comment moderation on for a long time now to stop those people from leaving links to all kinds of web sites in their comment. Who pays these people to sit at a computer and spam??

  12. @Lynne -- I'm trying to avoid comment moderation because I'm lazy . . . well, not really, but it is more work. Actually I haven't had any trouble until now when they posted at least four gross comments.
