Wordless Wednesday #5: Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair, Part 1

The Iris Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair, New Jersey is possibly the largest and most diverse iris garden in the world. Every May and June thousands of lovely irises bloom.

The building above is Walther House, including The Bloom Room, the gift shop where flowers and other related iris-related items are located. For more information on this lovely New Jersey garden, visit the Garden website.

New Jersey Memories said...

@caite -- The gardens only bloom for such a short time. For years I'd forget to go or I was "too busy" while I was going to Montclair State. I finally went a few years ago and was determined to take photos this time!

New Jersey Memories said...

@I Am Harriet -- Then you're part Jerseyan!

New Jersey Memories said...

@Doreen McGettigan -- Thanks for visiting and following! I will definitely visit your site! I don't know if they ever caught that bank robber despite Bloomfield police racing around everywhere!

I love irises. I have loads of them all over in my flower gardens. They are so easy to take care of and give a dramatic show when they bloom.

So beautiful! I love irises. They are one of my favorite flowers. My grandmother loved them and they remind me of her. Fragile and feminine.

Thank you for sharing. What a beautiful experience you must have had.

How beautiful! I wish I'd known about it back when I used to live in West Orange, though maybe it isn't that old.

I canvased Upper Montclair raising money for an environmental organization one summer back in college, it's such a beautiful town, and so completely different from Israel, where I've spent the ensuing twenty years. Thanks for a fun walk down memory lane.

Lovely photos....I'm down in Princeton and we see a lot of Irises, since it seems that so far the deer don't like them much!

Happy Friday!

Lovely photos of those Irises and what a beautiful garden. Irises somehow always seem so very regal to me and so worthy of a post all to themselves :-)

@Alyson -- Princeton is lovely. I stayed for a few days at Princeton University and visited the town. So beautiful and historic.

We have lots of deer in Essex County, too. They are everywhere. My boyfriend's mother used to grow tomatoes in her yard and had to move the tomato plants inside a fence because the deer kept eating them.

New Jersey Memories said...

@Deb Chitwood -- It is a large garden to be dedicated to one flower. I took so many photos that I will have to post more soon!

New Jersey Memories said...

@Kelly -- Thanks for visiting!
