Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey, hosts the largest cherry blossom festival in the United States every April (yes, even bigger than Washington, D.C).

You can read more about Branch Brook Park here

It was the first county park opened for public use in The United States.

  4. I grew up within walking distance of Branch Brook Park and was probably there at least once a week.
Sleding in the winter, cherry blossoms, ice skating rink, watching my uncle play soccer...lots of NJ memories!

  10. Nice shots! Thanks for visiting my blog, but I'd love to know how you found me!

This year was the first year we had heard about the cherry blossoms. Too bad for us that they bloomed earlier due to our warm weather and they were almost done when we arrived. Next year I will keep a closer watch on the whole blooming process and try to catch them at their peak!

  11. @catsynth -- yes, they're intense but very beautiful.

  12. @caite -- Branch Brook Park is beautiful. I know people hear the work "Newark" and think it is all ugly, but that's just so not true. Men play bocce there, and everyone sits on the grass underneath all the beautiful trees and relaxes.

  17. @Lynne -- there is such a short time frame for the blossoms. Some of them hadn't really started blooming yet when I was there. It's hard to time it right!

  24. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous!!! I love cherry blossoms. They are an awesome backdrop for photos and are so pretty to look at. I didn't know that somewhere else had a bigger display than DC, but clearly y'all actually have a center dedicated to it. We don't, LOL. Great photos.

  38. Just found your blog (via your comment on Rachel Cotterill, I think) -- it looks great and your header is beautiful.

I'm originally from northern NJ and have posted a number of times about my home town of Ho-Ho-Kus on my blog. I look forward to exploring your blog and reading much more about my home state.

    Cheers from Australia.
