Haunted Hospitals, Part I

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

The Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove, also known as Overbrook, was a notorious mental hospital with a very sorry history. The treatment of mental patients over the years was abysmal. It has been stated that over 10,000 patients died there due to suicide, patient abuse, gross overcrowding, starvation and other issues.
The hospital was housed in beautiful buildings on rather gorgeous grounds on Fairview Avenue in Cedar Grove but has since been moved to another facility in the town, where the treatments are modern and progressive. The buildings from the former hospital were abandoned and left to rot. Of course, there were quickly rumors of the "ghosts" of former patients haunting the place.

Now all the buildings are going to be torn down.

Here are some very recent pictures I took of the old administration building:

ATTN: DO NOT VISIT THIS HAUNTED HOSPITAL. IT IS CONSTANTLY PATROLLED BY THE ESSEX COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. YOU COULD BE ARRESTED AND PROSECUTED.

Stayed tuned for PART II of Haunted Hospitals in tomorrow's post!
